Frequently asked questions!

  • What is Advanced Orthogonal (AdvO) Chiropractic?

Advanced Orthogonal (AdvO) Chiropractic is a state-of-the-art upper cervical technique. Upper cervical means that we focus on the misalignment of the structures in your upper neck and helping to accurately realign those areas to remove pressure off important nervous system structures like your brain stem, spinal cord and nerves.

  • How is AdvO different from traditional chiropractic care?

The biggest difference between the application of AdvO care and traditional chiropractic care is the meticulous and painless treatment process. AdvO care does not require any twisting or popping to manipulate the spine. An AdvO upper cervical chiropractor focuses on the precise alignment of the neck vertebrae, realizing that the rest of the spine will follow suit when the top two vertebrae are in working order.

  • Who is eligible to receive AdvO care?

If you have a misalignment in the upper neck then you are likely to be a candidate for AdvO care. Age is not a factor. In fact, we treat day old babies and people well into their nineties. We are able to see individuals who have had surgeries that prevent them from being under the care of traditional chiropractors due to the specific and gentle nature of the AdvO technique. Our thorough examination will determine if you are a candidate for care.

  • What types of conditions are treated with AdvO care?

    Childhood Conditions:

    • Ear Infections
    • Colic
    • Digestive Bowl Issues
    • Allergies
    • Asthma
    • Difficulty Sleeping

  • Is upper cervical care safe?

Yes. There are no drugs, surgeries, or stressful manipulations of the spine with AdvO care. AdvO chiropractors use specific testing, examination and precise x-ray analysis to determine the safest and most efficient treatment process. Our approach utilizes a gentle sound-wave adjusting instrument to move the top bone in your neck back into alignment, taking pressure off of the intricate nerves and brain stem to restore better function and healing.

  • Is AdvO upper cervical care painful?

No. AdvO chiropractic corrections do not require any twisting, popping, or cracking of the patient’s neck or spine. At most, the patient may feel a small amount of pressure around the upper neck as the painless, percussive sound wave adjustment is administered.

  • Why are x-rays taken?

“To see, is to know.” There is no room for guesswork in AdvO upper cervical care. Pre x-rays are initially taken to provide a clear view and analysis of the misalignments in the upper neck to determine accurate and tailored corrections. After your initial correction, a set of two post x-rays are taken, analyzed and compared to the pre x-rays to ensure that the correction was effective. Post x-rays will allow us to determine if any modifications are still needed to obtain the best correction possible. Each person’s anatomy and life experiences are different and will respond uniquely to the upper cervical correction.

  • How long until I see results?

Typically, our patients experience improvement in their condition within the first 2-4 weeks of care. It is important to remember that healing is an ongoing “process” that restores health and vitality back to your body. It is not completed overnight. Time is required in order to fully regain your health. Your doctor will design a specific treatment plan to maximize your response and recovery in the shortest duration possible. Following this plan is imperative to the success of your care. Compliance is key. A patient’s choice to deviate from the recommended course of care will extend your recovery time.

  • How do people become misaligned?

The upper neck can become misaligned from many different experiences. It doesn’t just take some sort of accident or injury that occurred at some point in life. It could happen at birth or from falling off your bike. Other times, it is exposure to stress or poor posture. The fact is, the longer the upper neck remains misaligned, the more the rest of the body will suffer the repercussions.

  • If the pain is in my low back, why am I getting an adjustment in my neck?

The misalignment in the neck can cause changes throughout the whole body. The upper neck area houses your brainstem, which is responsible for the muscle tone in your entire body. When there is a misalignment in the upper neck, the spine and hip can become distorted by compensating to the muscle imbalance. As a result, this causes muscle tension, spasms, pain and discomfort in the low back area. Without the correct upper neck alignment, you will continue to suffer reoccurring problems in your lower back.

  • How much does it cost?

The first visit is to determine if an individual is a candidate for care. This will include a consultation, examination and x-rays typically costing around $300. In more complex cases, a more detailed examination and/or advanced imaging may be necessary beyond this initial cost.

During the second visit, your doctor will review the results of your examination and x-rays, and discuss your recommended plan of care. The first correction will be performed followed by two post x-rays and a soft cervical collar will be placed on the patient. This visit will cost approximately $200-$230.

Once your specific plan of care is determined, future costs will be better understood for your recovery.

  • Will my insurance cover the visit?

The answer is possibly. Health insurance plans can vary in coverage. Depending on your plan, we may be able to submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf or provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We must emphasize that as medical providers our relationship is with you, not your insurance company, so it is best to verify with your insurance carrier that you have “out of network” benefits for chiropractic care. Our insurance team will be happy to confirm coverage.  Although filing your insurance claims is a courtesy extended to you, all charges are always your responsibility from the date services are rendered.
