CHILDHOOD CONDITIONS

Children experience different health concerns from adults. However, some issues that arise in childhood can be outgrown while others continue to get worse into adulthood. Upper cervical issues can contribute to many of these chronic health problems. The upper cervical spine consists of the top two bones of the neck, at the base of the skull. They are responsible for many important functions in the body to include protecting the brainstem and supporting proper blood flow to the brain. When a misalignment of the upper cervical spine occurs, the body is unable to function properly and health issues can result. A child’s health can be affected in a number of ways as a result of this misalignment, so correcting this in order for his/her body to develop and grow properly is extremely important.

IT CAN START AT BIRTH:

When an infant comes into the world, even during natural childbirth, pressure can be put on the neck and head, resulting in a misalignment. The risks are compounded when there are complications that result in a difficult childbirth or if instruments are used to help extract the baby from the birthing canal. We have treated many young children who have experienced conditions when starting life with an upper cervical misalignment to include:

  • Colic/Stomach Problems
  • Jaundice
  • Ear Infections
  • Digestive Issues
  • Sleep Issues
  • Scoliosis
  • Diarrhea/Constipation
  • Allergies

As Kids GROWS, ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES HAPPEN:

Kids will be kids, and that can mean injuries around the house or on the playground. While kids are pretty resilient, an underlying misalignment could occur and lead to future problems. Thus, it is important to have the upper cervical spine checked following any sort of head or neck trauma, even if your child doesn’t seem to have any neck pain. They also love to play sports in school, and they don’t want to be benched for a minor injury. However, it is important to examine the upper cervical spine when a head or neck injury occurs, especially in a contact sport. Many children we have seen experience the following conditions following an accident/injury:

  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Concussion
  • Whiplash
  • Neck Pain
  • Muscle Spasms/Torticolis
