MENIERE'S DISEASE AND VERTIGO

Meniere’s Disease is an inner ear disorder characterized by vertigo (severe dizzy spells), low frequency hearing loss, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Other symptoms may include a feeling of fullness in one or both ears and nausea. These symptoms can lead to loss of balance and sudden unexpected falls (drop attacks).

According to research, Meniere’s Disease is caused by a buildup of fluid within the chambers of the inner ear. The passageways within the ear canal become blocked, and fluid builds up behind these blockages. That said, the disease itself can develop very quickly and the symptoms may present themselves rapidly. These symptoms can be crippling at times but are actually related to the same specific problem. The common link among all of the symptoms of Meniere’s Disease is a structure in the ear called the Vestubulo-cochlear nerve. This nerve starts in the brainstem and is responsible for processing hearing and balance information. When the brainstem is disrupted due to an upper cervical misalignment, this nerve has been found to be involved, and can lead to, any or all of the above symptoms.

Individuals suffering with Meniere’s Disease have been treated very effectively utilizing the Advanced Orthogonal (AdvO) approach by correcting the misalignment in the upper neck (C1 Atlas). AdvO care allows the nerves to function better and heal. In fact, a 2008 study in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research found that 100% of cases of Meniere’s Disease showed symptomatic improvement or total resolution following a period of Upper Cervical Chiropractic care.
