Sciatica and Low Back Pain

Sciatica and lower back pain are some of the most common conditions we see here at Pierce Clinic of Chiropractic. Extensive research tells us that 31 million Americans will be experiencing lower back pain at any given time. It accounts for the single largest cause of disability worldwide and affects nearly 80% of people at some point in their life time. There are many different conditions that can create lower back pain including nerve dysfunction, arthritis, infection, fracture, cancer, and spinal disc damage.

Essentially, the vertebra in your spine are separated by a disc which provides shock absorption and protection. The disc is composed of a soft jello center called the nucleus surrounded by a strong ring of cartilage called the annulus fibrosis. Under certain situations the outer ring can become damaged and cause a leak or bulge of the inner contents of the nucleus. When this happens in the lower back, the bulge will begin to press on the nerves as they exit the spine and the patient will often times experience nerve pain shooting into the buttocks and leg. This is called sciatica. If the pressure on the nerve persists for a long enough period of time, the patient can develop numbness and weakness in the leg.

How Our Upper Cervical Doctors can help with Low Back Pain and Sciatica when Others have Failed

The Pierce Clinic of Chiropractic uses a revolutionary healthcare procedure called the Advanced Orthogonal technique.  This procedure identifies subtle misalignments of the top vertebrae in the neck which oftentimes disrupts nerve function in the lower back.  Due to the proximity of these bones to the brain stem area, this procedure can also help with a wide variety of conditions.

The reason for this is as nerve exit the skull, they carry vital messages to the muscles of the low back to ensure proper and balanced function. Misalignments at the top of the neck interfere with the communication of these nerves to the low back and can result in muscle imbalance and twisting of the pelvis. Over years of walking with a twisted pelvis, additional strain is placed on the low back joints causing pain and weakening of the discs. This has proven to be the cause of low back pain and sciatica for many of our patients. Through our corrective procedures, normal nerve function can be returned allowing the low back to unwind and begin healing. Because of these precise corrections, over the years we have been able to help thousands of people with low back pain and sciatica.
